"UMinho recebe 30º Congresso da Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento Regional: responsáveis do INE e do PRR estão amanhã na abertura do evento"

A Universidade do Minho organiza de 19 a 21 de julho o 30º Congresso da Associação Portuguesa de Desenvolvimento Regional (APDR), em Braga.

 

A sessão de abertura é esta quarta-feira, às 15h15, no Museu Nogueira da Silva, com o presidente do Instituto Nacional de Estatística, Professor Francisco Lima, o presidente da APDR, Professor João Leitão, o Reitor da UMinho, Professor Rui Vieira de Castro, e a coordenadora do evento e presidente do Instituto de Ciências Sociais (ICS) da UMinho, Professora Paula Remoaldo. Segue-se uma palestra do presidente da Comissão Nacional de Acompanhamento do PRR (Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência), Professor Pedro Dominguinhos, que vai abordar os resultados do PRR e o seu impacto na coesão territorial e inovação empresarial.

 

Na quinta-feira destaca-se uma mesa redonda com o editor-chefe do “Journal Regional Science Policy and Practice”, do “The Annals of Regional Science” e da “Portuguese Review of Regional Science”, respetivamente Professor Tomaz Ponce Dentinho, Professor Martin Andersson e Professor José Cadima Ribeiro. É às 11h00, no auditório do Instituto de Educação da UMinho. Às 19h00, na Sala de Atos do ICS, vai ser lançado o livro “Os territórios na era das redes: cultura digital, ação coletiva e bens comuns”, do professor António Covas.

 

A agenda de sexta-feira culmina com um conjunto intenso de sete sessões paralelas, que focam temas como economia circular, turismo sustentável, descentralização, migrações e territórios periféricos. Merece também ênfase a sessão plenária sobre crescimento inclusivo, pelo Professor Martin Andersson, da Universidade de Lund, Suécia (às 11h30), e a apresentação do livro “Pensar a serra da Estrela”, do Jornal do Fundão (18h30).

 

O congresso tem o tema “Desafios do desenvolvimento sustentável dos territórios em contextos de incertezas devido a choques e riscos externos” e junta cerca de 170 cientistas regionais, economistas, sociólogos, geógrafos, urbanistas, investigadores e decisores políticos. A iniciativa quer enfatizar as políticas públicas locais, regionais, nacionais e europeias na área, trazendo ideias, teorias e potenciais soluções para estrangulamentos territoriais, sociais e de desenvolvimento na Europa e no mundo. Os resumos científicos apresentados vão sair numa edição especial de três revistas e num livro.

 

O evento insere-se no programa do Cinquentenário da UMinho e inclui na organização o Laboratório de Paisagens, Património e Território (Lab2PT), o ICS e a Escola de Economia e Gestão, entre outros. O site oficial é www.apdr.pt/congresso/2023.

Da revisão das NUTS II ao esboço de um princípio de desenho da regionalização de Portugal continental

As NUTS II 2024 dão origem a 

7 NUTS II no Continente, 

com evidência para a autonomização da Península de Setúbal 

da anteriormente definida Área Metropolitana de Lisboa, que assume a designação de Grande Lisboa, 

e a criação de uma outra unidade configurada pelo Oeste e Vale do Tejo (Oeste, Médio Tejo e Lezíria do Tejo), 

que implicou a redefinição, também, dos territórios afetos às NUTS II Centro e Alentejo.

Dear colleagues,

The APDR invites regional scientists, economists, sociologists, geographers, urban planners, policy makers, and researchers of related disciplines to participate in the 30^th APDR Congress with the theme "Sustainability Development Challenges of Territories in Contexts of Uncertainties due to External Shocks and Risks" that will be held from 19^th to 21^st of July, 2023, at University of Minho (Institute of Social Sciences and Lab2PT), Campus de Gualtar, Braga, Portugal.

During the last years, the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, the war in Ukraine, following the decision of Russia to invade it, impacted deeply world economy and citizens daily life, particularly in some territories more exposed to the tourism industry or relying more on non-renewable energies and other production factors which the war turned scarcer or more expensive. No one knows yet when this international conflict can have an end.

Besides, the international trade chain goes on suffering from the impacts of the pandemic, a phenomenon that is still without enough control in China. The need to enhancing the fight against global warming and climate change, as well as the continuous evolution of digital technologies, are also bringing some uncertainty to the markets, and it is hard to predict whose territories will be the winning and looser ones.

In this context, adopting more sustainable development strategies, social inclusive policies, more environmentally friendly transport modes, commit more on innovation and entrepreneurship at regional and local levels, and adopting new governance models at the territories, aiming deepen democracy and give efficacy to the decision-making process on the main issues affecting territories development, looks to be required.

The overall aim of this conference is to bring ideas, theoretical approaches and examples of potential solutions to territorial bottlenecks and social and development difficulties.
