EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm

«EUROCITIES 2009 <http://www.eurocities2009.eu/>
Dear colleagues,
Only a month to go until the EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm conference! Here is a quick debrief:

Senator John Kerry responds to the Stockholm Appeal
Our Stockholm Appeal, initiated by Stockholm Mayor Sten Nordin and co-written by EUROCITIES and the US Conference of Mayors, is gaining transatlantic recognition. Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, sponsor of the Senate bill to reduce CO2-emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 and the leader of a delegation to the COP15 talks in Copenhagen, will as representative of the Obama administration respond to the Appeal. His response to its political impact will be shown on screen during the Friday morning plenary, while Mr Robert Silverman, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US embassy in Stockholm, will join our Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Energy and Enterprise, Ms Maud Olofsson, in the discussions. We hope you'll have your questions ready!

We want you (to register)
EUROCITIES 2009
You haven't missed our side events, have you? Individual registration for each event is necessary. Events include our arty and surprising Metro tour (the world's longest art gallery!), the MATRIX final conference, the Covenant of Mayors workshop or the POWER conference.

Deep Dives filling up
Ever wondered how to combine your city's interests with that of a private company? In our three sponsor-led deep dives we will look at close partnerships between cities and three companies in the fields of electricity, transport and communications. You will learn about the electric car charging network, drive the new electric hybrid ethanol buses and learn how Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), e-health, education and financial transactions are transforming global economies and people's lives. Remember that the deep dives require your active participation!
As it is only a month before the conference we are pleased to see that several deep dives have already reached their maximum limit - get in touch with us if you really need to attend one of them.
The deadline for booking hotel rooms when registering has now passed; we have put up a link to a booking service instead. Hint: book our recommended hotels to get transport to the venues!

Kind regards,
EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm team
