Job summary:
In the scope of Ciência 2008, the programme of the Portuguese Fund for Science and Technology (FCT), for financing contracts towards the professional integration of post doctoral researchers in the national science and technology system, e-GEO Centre for Geographical and Regional Planning Studies
is launching an open call for two research positions. PhD in Geography or in a complementary social or earth science, a minimum of three years research experience, relevant scientific production and a excellent knowledge of English are required. The research positions will be effective after FCT’s approval.

Job description:
e-GEO, Centre for Geographical and Regional Planning Studies, created in 1981, is launching an open call for: (i) one research position in the research group “Spatial Planning and Geographic Modelling” and (ii) one research position in the research group “Territory, Environment and Development”.

Transdisciplinarity and networking are the general principles that orient the scientific activities of e-GEO, a Portuguese leading research centre for spatial planning, spatial development, environment and geographic modelling. Most of e-GEO’s basic and applied research projects are funded by international (mostly EU) and national scientific development programmes. In recent years, e-GEO has successfully implemented market-oriented research financially supported by the Portuguese public and private sectors.

e-GEO integrates 27 PhDs and 43 other researchers. At present, senior researchers are supervising a quite significant number of post-doctoral and PhD research projects both of Portuguese and foreign students.

e-GEO scientific activities are carried out within two Research Groups:
(i) Spatial Planning and Geographic Modelling;
(ii) Territory, Environment and Development.

The Spatial Planning and Geographical Modelling Research Group activities are focused on the following topics:
· Spatial planning and management: stakeholders, strategies and tools;
· Geographic modelling, cities and spatial planning;
· Territorial networks and systems.

The Territory, Environment and Development Research Group activities are focused on the following topics:
· Natural resources and environmental issues;
· Rural sustainable development and organic farming market analysis;
· Competitiveness and entrepreneurship;
· Social cohesion and governance;
· Population change and development.

The researchers are expected to:
· participate in ongoing fundamental and applied research project(s) as well as in the preparation of research proposals both at the national and international levels;
· supervise PhD theses and Master’s dissertations;
· present papers in scientific events in Portugal and abroad;
· publish annually, at least, an article in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal;
· provide expertise in market-oriented research, when solicited;
· to hand in scientific and financial reports, when solicited.

· Cover letter;
· Copy of the PhD diploma;
· Detailed CV;
· Proposal of a working research plan (up to three pages) on one of the topics mentioned above;
· Two letters of recommendation.
