THE TOURIST CHANGE ON MATERA, IN 2019

The choice of this particular theme stems from the fact that millions of tourists are lining up to visit and participate in the many events that "Matera 2019", European Capital of Culture, offers.
Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world, it is at the center of an incredible rocky landscape that preserves a great heritage of culture and traditions. Its magnificent backdrop, dotted with pebbles, has always been the fulcrum of Lucan tourism, attracting a huge amount of tourists from all over the world. From October 17, 2014 it is the European Capital of Culture for 2019. In the splendid setting of the Sassi, 48 weeks begin (which will end with the closing ceremony on December 20, 2019), rich in events and celebrations to celebrate it as the European Capital of Culture.
The opening ceremony of "Matera 2019" took place last January 19th, which transformed the city into a huge village festival, hosting musical bands from 131 Lucan communes and from all over Europe, that have gladdened the city quarters since morning until sunset. Obviously, this is not just this. The program includes a serie of events and a calendar full of exceptional events that cannot be overlooked by any tourist.
The dossier includes: about one million visitors, 8000 artists and operators from various sectors (entertainment, cinema, theater and music), 5 extraordinary international exhibitions and appointments and meetings between history and new digital frontiers. One of the many new features is the participation method: paying just 19 euros, you can get your own ticket which, more than a ticket, the "Passport to Matera 2019" is a real pass. It is a card created in order to participate in all the events that will take place for the whole year. It was created for a more attentive tourism, in which the visitor becomes a citizen of Matera and Basilicata for a day or more.
The impact on tourism is already very high. The proclamation of Matera 2019 as the European Capital of Culture is a significant turning point for Lucan tourism, a climb towards the success that makes the city and the entire region one of the most sought-after tourist destinations of the year. In fact, they intend to host more than 40 gatherings, international meetings and summer schools of European change communities and networks.
The fantastic novelty of Matera makes 2019 a year full of success in terms of tourism and culture for the entire Italian country.
